Dirty Shoe Gravel Race - Fatty Style

 

I headed to Illinois Friday. I recon'd some of race route for Saturday then hit the hotel. A ton of races I wanted to conflict with my gig schedule plus as I said before, my foot injury hasn't been fun. It's healing slowly. I met the race organizer Friday as I finished my ride. Nice guy. I love grasss roots events. Neat little town. The race started and finished on the horse track. Right in front is the world's largest Horseshoe. The race was fun. Chunky gravel with some fun hills. I rode with the lead guys early, but those gravel bikes pulled away. I was solo until the last 13 miles. Curt joined me. I had a blast on a narrow double track road. I was solo again. There was pavement for a few miles. I was going 21 mph, but Curt caught me again. He put in some nice pulls on the final gravel sections. I cheered him on to attack in the last half mile. We finished doing a lap on the track. Curt finished just in front in 5th with me 6th. It was nice doing a race. I drove straight to my gig. Just made it. haha Fun stuff!

Cow Country Thursday

 Day 5 in a row. Short 20 miler in Cow Country. It was nice not having the bug invasion. haha 2nd ride on the Emonda. 19,1 avg tonight. Steady tempo. I put in an effort up Pisgah Hill. 1 mile climb. Not a lot of tailwind, but good effort. The last half is always fun. Many great battles when we'd hit that all out to Studebaker then full gas to the finish to PECO. I almost have this bike dialed in. Love that paint job. Having 5 road bikes is crazy. haha Fun stuff!

Westward Wednesday

Busy day, but I got out around 5:30 in Brookville. Rolled West to Lewisburg then just kept on heading West. It's been awhile since I've been on those roads. Rough chip n seal. Went as far as I could until I saw the rain. I raced it back which was fun. 35 miles. It was nice riding my Emonda ALR. Big Tim did a great job. New rotors & pads. I got home just as the rain came down. Mooohahaha

Casstown Tuesday

Another awesome day with upper 70's & sunshine. I got in a few intervals. 1 KOM. Missed two others  by 2 seconds. No tailwind either. I'll be back as the KOM holder had a good tailwind. Ride # 1 was 21 miles. I  hopped on my 2005 5.5 Madone built up with 9 speed for ride # 2. I rode just a few seconds then my shifter locked up. Argggg. Parts fell out. Bummer. Those were mint used and in working order, but it is old. I got on Ebay later. I found a new old stock Ultegra 9 speed rear shifter. Yeah! This bike is mint for 21 years old. Fun stuff!

Double Monday

Back on the trails after 2 weeks. Fun fatty ride at MoMBA with Big Tim. The weather was killer! Tim was fltying on that E-Bike. Ride # 2 on the TT bike. I've had a nagging foot injury which has hampered my race schedule the last few months. Simple riding is ok, but my foot hurts after all out intervals / efforts. It's better, but not much fun. I still set a new KOM on the 2 lap velodrome segment. It's technical at high speed on the TT bike. haha Good day of riding!

Weekend Wrap Up

 Back on the bike Friday. Busy day, but got out to defend 1 KOM in Brookville. 2 more to go over that way. Good effort! I took another rest day Saturday. Sunday was on the fat bike in Liberty, Indiana for some gravel fun. 41 miles on my fav roads. Good tempo ride.

Ramblin' Wednesday

 Stole another one. We rode around the rain. 30+ miles from P-Hill with The Beast, Joshium, & T.Bolt. Lots of sprints. The rain came down as we drove home. Mooohahaha!
