Calvin's Challenge 15 Mile TT - Victory!

Early morning with a 7:00 race start. Storms were in the forecast, so I decided Thursday to do the 15 mile TT. I had planned on the 50 miler. The 50 mile course would be on SR 72 three times. Safety is more important. I needed a longer than 10 mile TT, so the 15 mile was perfect. Plus I'm doing Blue Streak TT's on the fat bike. Cloudy 59 degrees with South wind picking up 10-12 mph with higher gusts. Those are chip n seal roads. Slow rolling with false flats and a 300 ft of climbing. It was mass start chaos. You have 6,12, & 24 hour racers too. I waited 5 minutes then started. I had to pass many riders. I had to slow at times with cars being stuck behind racers. First 5.5 miles was all headwind It was early and my body wasn't firing 100%. 2.5 miles West to SR 72. I was settling in. I had tailwind for the last 7 miles. The road surface wasn't fast rolling plus it was slightly uphill. I gained speed nonetheless with the tailwind. 1st place in the TT with the fastest lap out of everyone. It was later beaten by a recumbent, but conditions were much faster later after the storms. 3rd race in 7 days. Thanks to Joe L. for the pics and hanging out. Great job Larry for putting the race on. Good stuff!

JB Thursday

Back at JB with Buz yesterday. The trails were in great shape. We mapped a new MCR time trial route.  I'm hoping to steal some races soon if we don't get too much rain. Fun stuff!

MoMBA Wednesday

2 hours of Fatty solo fun at MoMBA this afternoon. Trails were drier than I thought. Not many out today as the wind was howling. Temps dropped 8 degrees during my ride. Fun ride!

Blue Streak TT - Fatty Style

Back on the fatty at Blue Streak. I had one heck of race on my tt bike last month. The rest of the year is on the fatty. I have other races planned on the tt bike. I was still feeling Saturday's race effort & this lingering head cold. 20.2 mph avg tho on a fatty is great. It's stupid, but fun. haha Buz did a great ride on his fatty with Tebow on the road bike. T.Bolt put in a good effort on the tt bike. Fun stuff!

The Forty Five - Fatty Style

It's been 7 years since I've done this race. Wow! I picked up a head cold Thursday morning, I almost didn't go. I also had a gig Saturday night which makes a long day. Many races are on gig dates this year or have been cancelled. I had to race though. I left Friday night. Sunny early with temps 61 at the the start. Overcast 68 at the finish. Perfect. This race is a mix of single track, pavement, gravel & two track. 2,5 mile paved climb followed by 8 miles of single track. I started last and worked my way up to a nice group going into the single track. I was on my rigid fatty, so the rooty sections were a bit bouncy, hehe

I finished the single track then on pavement for 5 miles. I felt great rolling those big tires. haha Then gravel. I missed the turn on to Middle Ridge. It looked different than it used to. I went quarter mile farther then turned around costing me 2 minutes. arggg. It was time to head back. More gravel then pavement finishing with 8 miles of single track. 4 miles to go. The trail split. The tape looked  to go right, but it was the wrong way. lol I added a bit more mileage again. Despite my head cold, I felt great. 16th Place / 2nd 50 - 59. Man, Bummed I added some mileage as I would have won my age group and been 13th. Racing a fatty is a workout, but also fun. I had to head home to my gig, so I missed the podium awards. My Forty Five ended up 48 miles. lol  Good stuff!
